Today is a very special day at Airbus, with the delivery of the fiftieth A380.

Singapore Airlines’ twelfth A380 (MSN058) is the lucky frame, and the delivery comes almost four years after the first A380 delivery, which also went to Singapore Airlines.

So now there are…

15 A380s in service with Emirates
12 A380s in service with Singapore Airlines
10 A380s in service with Qantas
7 A380s in service with Lufthansa
5 A380s in service with Air France
1 A380 in service with Korean Air

A380 Production Update: June 2011 (#9)

Yesterday, Singapore Airlines’ twelfth A380 (MSN058) was transferred to Toulouse for delivery to the airline.

MSN058 spent almost ten months in the outfitting process, much longer than other recent frames.

The delay is largely due to “business class” seat manufacturer “Koito”, which admitted to falsifying data of over 100,000 seats in world fleets. But Airbus recently granted “Koito” permission to install the seats, and Singapore Airlines is expected to receive MSN058 in the coming weeks.

Late last week we saw the roll out of MSN047 (Qantas #7) in Hamburg, this is the first roll out of a Qantas frame this year.

A valuable member of the forum has provided us with a production update:

MSN050 will finish in the paint hangars next week.

Only 5 of the 6 outfitting bays are currently being occupied. MSN064 for Air France will take spot #6 in the next few weeks.

Several aviation forums are reporting that Emirates will be suspending A380 deliveries in 2011. We cannot yet confirm or deny this, but current production schedules still state that the airline will receive three A380s in Q3/Q4 2011 (MSN060, MSN077, and MSN080).

If Emirates were to suspend deliveries, it would halt deployment of the A380 on key routes such as Dubai-Melbourne and Dubai-Singapore.

Over in Toulouse, Singapore Airlines’ twelfth A380 (MSN058) successfully performed her first flight; it was also her ferry flight to Hamburg for cabin outfitting.

Earlier in the week a great photo of the Toulouse flightline was posted to Flickr. The picture also confirms that Singapore Airlines twelfth (MSN058) has been moved to engine test bay.
